COMMEMORATING THE SECOND APPARITION
Obedience and An Immaculate Heart
In the second apparition, one month later, Our Lady repeated her request that the children recite the Rosary daily and asked them to learn to read. She tells the children that more will be revealed to them in the remaining apparitions. She tells Lucia that she will remain longer in this life than Francisco and Jacinta to help make Our Lady better known and loved and to establish a world-wide devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. This work and this devotion will be a refuge for Lucia and a powerful means through which she and others will come to know God. The children were shown a vision of Mary’s Immaculate Heart surrounded by piercing thorns.
What Should I do?
Daily recitation of the Rosary is more than a pious custom for those who like it. It is a powerful, heaven-established means for personal sanctification and for the conversion of the world. Whether our lives are long or short, we are offered the opportunity to make reparation for the sins of unfaithful people and to assist in their conversion as well as our own continuing conversion. Thoughtful praying of the Holy Rosary opens the chambers of Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart where we will find consolation and the way to heaven.
